About me


This is me, in China (Summer Palace, Beijing) during the IAU general reunion in 2012.

My name is Mireia /Mee-ray-yah/ Montes Quiles (name and two surnames).

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UNSW Sydney (University of New South Wales) working with A/Prof. Sarah Brough on deep images of the SAMI clusters. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University. I did my PhD at the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC).

My research interest is understand the formation and evolution of galaxies and galaxy clusters. For that, I use very deep imaging to study the assembly of these objects.

My passions are: dancing, singing, reading, writing, sometimes yoga, cats, chocolate, music. I’ve been recently exploring¬†lyra¬†too. I love the idea of expressing emotions with movement. I am a feminist, an ally and advocate for a more inclusive environment everywhere and mental health awareness.
